A Celebration Of Life
Better
is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere... Psalm
84:10 (NIV)

Josiah Newton Covert
February
26, 1975 - June 25, 2000
His lightning lights up the world;
the earth sees and trembles. The mountains melt like wax before
the Lord, before the Lord of all the earth. The heavens proclaim
His righteousness, and all the people see His glory. Psalm 97:4-6
(NIV)

Josiah Newton Covert was born February 26, 1975 in Columbus,
Kansas to Bruce and Brenda Covert, and was later joined by three
sisters: Maranatha Joy, Charity Renee, and Christina Faith. He is
also survived by paternal grandparents Newton and Naoma Covert.

State College with a physics He was a 1993 graduate of Carl
Junction High School. He graduated from Missouri Southern degree
in May of 1997. During his time at MSSC, Josiah was active with
Faith Assembly of God Church and Chi Alpha campus ministry.

In the fall of 1997 Josiah began pursuing his master's degree in
meteorology at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in
Rapid City. During this time Josiah became involved with
International Students Inc., a campus ministry. He enjoyed
sharing in the lives of the international students and made many
treasured friendships.

Storm chasing was also a favorite activity for Josiah in South
Dakota. He continued to be fascinated with God's creation. In
August of 1999, following his graduation, he returned to Carl
Junction, Missouri and began searching for a job in his field
with the National Weather Service. He was employed at PAL
Manufacturing. Josiah was a member of Joplin Church Alive where
he was involved with youth leadership.

Josiah was discovered missing on Friday, June 23. Rescue workers
found Josiah's body the morning of June 25, in Shoal Creek, not
far from where his vehicle was discovered at the falls. He often
visited the Shoal Creek area to take pictures or hike.

Josiah was faithful, dependable, and enjoyed serving others. His
prayer was to see people grow in their relationship with God, and
his family's strength comes in knowing Josiah shared their faith
in Jesus Christ as Savior. He will be missed, but family and
friends rejoice that he is in Heaven and hope that his life
encouraged others to love God with all of their hearts.

Josiah's body is buried at Osborne Cemetery at 33rd Street and
McClelland Boulevard, Joplin, Missouri but his soul is with his
Savior.
The following thoughts were last sent by Josiah to several
of his friends:
If God had a refrigerator, your picture would
be on it.
If He had a wallet, your photo would be in it.
He sends you flowers every spring and a sunrise
every morning.
Whenever you want to talk, He'll listen.
He can live anywhere in the universe, but He
chose your heart.
What about the Christmas gift He sent you in
Bethlehem; not to mention that Friday at Calvary.
Face it, He's crazy about you!!

The pictures of
nature shown here were taken from Josiah's personal photo
collection.
